In this class, we’ll explore the basics of of working with medicinal plants. We'll go over a variety of herbal preparations, including teas, infusions, decoctions, tinctures, capsules, powders, infused oils, glycerites, oxymels, and cold infusions. We’ll also discuss the benefits of purchasing prepared herbs versus crafting your own remedies at home.
We’ll discuss ethical sourcing and sustainability, including how to find high-quality herbs, the basics of foraging and plant identification, and the importance of protecting at-risk medicinal plants. You’ll be introduced to organizations such as United Plant Savers and learn about vulnerable plants including goldenseal, American ginseng, slippery elm, and white sage.
